What Are Kick Plates, and Do You Need One?

 Kick plates are pieces added to the bottom of the doors that reduce the damage. These are installed on the push side of the door. These protect the door for a lifetime. The most common kick plates are made from stainless steel, brass, or aluminum kick plate. Other options like plastic and vinyl are also available in different color options, but they don’t last long like the other options.

Why Are Kick Plates Necessary?
The primary purpose of the kick plate is to cover the lower part of the door and protect it from any damage. Nowadays, it is equally essential for residential doors to have kick plates because life has become fast. Apart from protection, kick plates also add beauty to doors. As ready mentioned, most common kick plates are made from stainless steel kick plate, brass kick plate, or bronze kick plates; you can also install kick plates made of plastic or vinyl that come in all color options. How to Install a Kick Plate?

Installing a kick plate is very simple. Kick plates are installed with some screws or an adhesive. There are even magnetic door kick plates available for metal doors. After noticing all the damage, your door has been through, getting a new one is an investment worthwhile. Kick plates come from a size of 8 to 22 inches tall and 21 to 46 inches wide. You will have to hold the kick plate in the position where it must be installed and fasten it in place with tape or adhesive. Mark the door where you will screw. Remove the plate from the door. Use a hammer and a center punch or anything else that will do the job. Put in the top and bottom screws first, and then make your way outwards with the screws.

Other Types of Protection Plates

Mop plates: These are made to protect the bottom of the pull side of a do. A standard mop plate size is 6 to 10 inches high and 20 to 46 inches wide.

Armor plates: These protect a larger surface of the door. In addition, armor plates protect the lower half of the door. These can be installed on the push side or the pull side of the opening. Size ranges from 25 to 47 inches high to 20 to 46 inches wide.

Stretcher plates: this is probably the least used type of protection plate; it is placed on the push side of the door near the middle of the door. These are found in hospitals and health care facilities. It ranges from 10 to 12 inches high and 20 to 46 inches wide.

Your door does not require a kick plate unless you notice any damage to the bottom portion of your door. If you like to make your door look aesthetic, you can install kick plates. It will protect your door for very long like the wall corner protectors protect the wall.
