Factors to Consider While Selecting a Kick Plate for Your House
Stainless steel kick plates or other options like aluminum kick plate and brass kick plate are very widely used in industrial and institutional construction to avoid harm to doors due to their toughness and ease of treatment. There is also the option of wall corner protectors to protect the corners from any damage so that it doesn't affect the look of your house. A brushed or polished finish will maintain its appearance with careful care over the life of the house.
Following are some of the factors that you need to think about when selecting a kick plate are:
1. What should be the proper proportions for the kick plates?
Kick plates should always be ordered 2 "shorter than the width of the door so as not to interfere with the door jam when you close the door. Beyond that, the height and the precise size of the kick plate is a matter of discretion or what has been defined for your particular application. Typically, there are four separate kick plate applications. The first, a mop cover, is around 8 "thick and sits at the very bottom of the door to shield the door from harm from janitorial mops. The second, the standard kickboard, is 6 to 12 "wide to keep brooms and boots and shoes from getting destroyed as people grip and push doors open. The third is an armor plate that can reach up to 48 "thick that mostly covers the entire bottom half of the frame. The fourth and final variant is a stretcher cover, which is intended for medical uses that is built to shield the door from stretchers crashing onto it. They are 6 to 12 "long and are situated at the average height of the handle parallel to the surface.
2. How should the kick plate be installed to the door?
The basic options available are adhesively mounted, and screw-mounted techniques to install a kick plate to a door. For the adhesive mounting plate, the dish is moved through a low-grit large belt sander to create a rough surface on the back that is suitable for the use of the adhesive to add the kick plate to the frame. The customers can decide the glue according to their choice. For the screw mounted kick plate, our regular kick plates have 3/16 "diameter openings, 8" in the middle for the mounting of the plates. These are the basic techniques that can be used in installing both the aluminum kick plate and brass kick plate and also in case of installing wall corner protectors.
3. How thick should the kick plate be?
The market norm plate is 0.05 "wide, i.e., 18 Gauge Stainless Steel or 050 Aluminum. For high duty applications, the common choice is a 0,06 "thick heavy-duty variety produced from 16 Gauge Stainless Steel or 063 Aluminum. There is also the option of more adhesive kick pads, such as in—125 "Thick 11 Gauge Stainless Steel.
These were some of the fundamental questions that come to mind when thinking of installing kick plates.
